A Classic

The Orvis Battenkill with 2 tips circa 1970 (?)  In excellent shape.  Much more classic action.  7'6" rod that will cast a 5 or a 6 wt. line.  Impregnated.  Dark, rich color.  Will hold it's value: this is a very collectible rod.  You can have both this rod and the rod above for $1700.00, or this rod alone shipped to you for $745.00

Jim Newland boxes are a stylish gift, and they're a great fly-box as well.  Jim builds these boxes from the raw, starting with wood he cuts himself.  We often see him driving around in the summers with the back of his pick-up rattling with various burls he's cut to later be formed into these beautiful boxes.  He even hand carves the little trout on the lid.  Let me know which one you want based on this picture.  Large boxes are $85, small boxes are $75.  Ship free!

A beautiful little reel from Mystic Reels.  Those are real flowers!  Click-pawl.  Classic Peerless-style handle with counterbalance.  Comes with nice zip-up leather reel case.  Was over $600, now yours for $400...

Abel Super 3N, 4N, and 5N, in brown trout finish: We love Abel.  They make every piece of this reel in house, which is in CA, USA (except the wood on the handle...that's gotta grow outside!)  These are reels designed to tame that once or twice a year "oh %#$*" fish.  The one you weren't expecting, or the one that you were.  The brown trout finish is very attractive.  Looks sharp on any rod.  These are very competitively priced at $150 off retail per reel.  Or you can buy the set of three for $1650 (that's $550 off retail).  Think 4 weight, 5 weight, 6 weight.  A beautiful set from one of the best reel manufacturers on the planet.

Stocking stuffers: Perhaps the perfect stocking stuffer.  Made entirely in America, these nippers are a guide/shop favorite.  I wear mine around my neck everyday at work.  They don't go dull, it seems.  But if they do, send them to Abel in the offseason with $6 and you get new jaws.  These are extravagant nippers to be certain, but name one tool that gets more use on the river!  Solid colors are $50, the rainbow nip is $100.  In my book, they're worth every penny.

From the Press Write-Up: If you have been enchanted by Jerry Dennis's earlier work on sailing the Great Lakes, canoeing, angling, and the natural wonders of water and sky—or you have not yet been lucky enough to enjoy his engaging prose—you will want to immerse yourself in his powerful and insightful new book on winter in Great Lakes country.

Grounded by a knee injury, Dennis learns to live at a slower pace while staying in houses ranging from a log cabin on Lake Superior's Keweenaw Peninsula to a $20 million mansion on the northern shore of Lake Michigan. While walking on beaches and exploring nearby woods and villages, he muses on the nature of time, weather, waves, agates, books, words for snow and ice, our complex relationship with nature, and much more.

Jerry Dennis lives and writes near Traverse City.  He's one of the finest outdoor writers that you'll find anywhere, and this is just the book to have by the fireplace in the winter.  Hardcover. $22.95.

Hardy Swift Two-Hand Rod: Thinking of getting into Spey Casting?  Want a Switch stick to throw indicators?  I did.  I bought this one.  Couldn't pass it up.  Retails for over 700 bucks.  On sale now for $450.

Gates Lodge Gift Certificates

We mail these out every week, and we can do them over the phone or through email. This is one of the easiest ways to buy a friend or friends a guide trip, rooms, or both; or just to help them load up on tackle. We can send them to you, or the gift recipient. A classic gift that's never the wrong thing.

Abel Super 7: A great steelhead/carp/bonefish/salmon reel.  Will stop just about anything that swims.  This reel is new, but doesn't have a box, just the Abel case.  Which means we can sell it for much less than retail.  An absolutely superb tool for the bigger rods in your arsenal.  It's way on sale at $500.

A Classic:  Great for you.  Great for your son or daughter.   I'd never heard of this book until late last year.  I've read it twice since then.  Follow a young Ruark as he grows up under the tutelage of his wiseacre grandpa learning to hunt and fish in the south.  It's so well-written you'll absolutely wish it wouldn't end.  Not a word about fly-fishing, but you won't care.  Ruark went on to be a very influential writer and journalist, particularly in Africa.  But this book to many of his fans is his very best work, and perhaps one of the finest books of its ilk ever written.   Hardcover.  $32.00

A classic Vermont guide boat that is also an Orvis Special Edition.  Hardly used.  A great lake boat that you can stand up and fish from.  Check out their website: http://www.adirondack-guide-boat.com...look up Vermont Fishing Dory.  All sorts of pictures and info on this boat at the website.  Comes with that $200+ Simms Boat Bag pictured.  A full HALF of the sale price will be donated to Anglers of the Au Sable.  $2500.00.

Gates Lodge Tying Boxes

The ultimate tying box.  Your hackles are stored underneath the elastic on the lid.  The dividers on the removable top piece hold dubbing, tools, thread, and hooks.  Underneath the top piece is a single huge compartment for hair, synthetics, vise, or whatever else you can think of.  Hand-made in Michigan.  A good solid box that is a lot better than the other "travel tying kits" you see around.  I've had mine for ten years.  The maker decided a decade was long enough, and finally made some more!  $175
