The Skunk (Modified)
Our take on a classic Au Sable pattern. This fly has produced the world over. This fly welcomes your own creativity. Black and green our most popular, but orange has its day, as does red, and a nice sublte maroon works wonders in June. Experiment with different tails. Try using krystal flash instead of rubber legs. You can do so much with this simple blueprint. One of our go-to flies in July and August, it does its best work flipped way under the cedars into the distant shadows, floated along logs, or down the thick bubble lines. One of your best chances at a big daytime brown on a dry fly is by fishing this fly over deep holes. When nothing else works...the skunk works wonders.
